The plateau of the shoe is a reference to the plinth already contained in the shoe before it was cast in bronze. The weight of the shoe is highlighted by installing it next to an original Buffalo shoe. The Buffalo brand, which is now thought of as classic, caused a discussion of bad taste at the time. As a reproduction of a named brand, the sculpture engages in the art theoretical discussion of replicas versus originals. It furthermore questions the way in which certain objects become symbols of their time, as the Buffalo shoe epitomizes 90s fashion. By casting the shoe in bronze, the artist has cemented and preserved what was at one time thought of as a passing fad. The title is a playful reference to a grammatically correct sentence, which nonetheless reads more like nonsense. Much in the same way, the more one looks at the sculpture, the otherwise familiar object takes on a strange quality.
